The episode titled “Home” of the
series The Walking dead aired on February 17th. It has been the
second episode to air since the mid-season break and in most people’s opinions,
was better than the first. After the airing of “The Suicide King” (the first
episode after the mid-season break) viewers were disappointed.
The second episode reveals much of
where all the build-up is going, and even gets you a little hyped up with two action scenes (I guess one to make
up for the lack of in the episode prior?). Writer of TVEquals post, Adam
Newland, says, “The show spent the final five minutes of the episode attempting
to make us forget about the dreadful 40 minutes that came before it.” He
continues to talk about how at the end of the show you may have been satisfied
with the episode, but if you really think back you will realize that almost two
full episodes went into this one five-minute scene and now we are back to watching
build-up again.
Another
place I agree with Newland is where he discusses the evolution of Daryl’s
character. Writer said, “[The scene] showcased that Daryl is really just a good
guy who needed the right situation to show it.” I believe this is something we
may have always known. In the middle of season two we see his love for
children by staying on constant watch for Sophia. His love for kids is
shown again in the latest episode when he hears the crying baby. Daryl goes out
of his way to kill a herd of walkers for a small family passing through. Who
doesn’t love a zombie massacre for the sake of childhood?
